Solar Farm Project Design Featured

Project Featured on Solar Industry Magazine Website

Rock Barn Farm Project, a 5.25 MW solar farm located on land owned by Rock Barn County Club in Spa in Conover, North Carolina, was recently featured in an article on Solar Industry Magazine’s website.

McGill Associates provided civil design, environmental services, surveying, permitting, construction phases services for the solar farm, which consists of 16,948 solar panels across 28 acres. It is expected to generate electricity for 500 homes annually, and will serve households for up to 35 years.

The Melink Corp., a company based in Cincinnati, Ohio that provides energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions for the commercial building industry, developed and commissioned the project.

In the article, Melink Corp. Founder and CEO Steve Melink states that “At 5 MW, it is our largest solar PV project to date. And being located in North Carolina, it allows us to show our national capabilities. Solar power is the way of the future, and we are proud to be helping lead the way.”

McGill Associates is proud to be a part of this important community effort and looks forward to assisting with more renewable energy projects in the future.

North Carolina Ranks Third Nationally in Solar Capacity

According to Starns News Online, North Carolina has recently emerged as a leader in the solar energy market, ranking third nationally for solar capacity behind California and Arizona. More than 200 solar-related companies exist in the state and approximately 2,436 megawatts of solar power has been installed, enough to power 260,000 homes, according to the Washington D.C.-based Solar Energy Industries Association. In 2015, North Carolina generated 140 percent more electric power with solar than it did in 2014, placing it among the four highest states for solar energy generation in the nation.
