CLIENT: City of Conover
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  The North Carolina Data Campus in Catawba County (NCDC) is a product of an economic development partnership between Catawba County, the City of Conover, the City of Hickory, the Town of Maiden, the Catawba County Economic Development Commission and other local partners. The goal of the NCDC was to develop an industrial site in Catawba County capable of accommodating a new data campus end user or industrial equivalent.

McGill Associates was selected by the City of Conover for this project to assist the City and its partners in project programming, planning, survey, design, bidding and the construction phases. The finished project’s scope of work included the construction of a new industrial drive extended from existing City streets for a total distance of 2,975 linear feet.

The project included roadway with sidewalk, curb and gutter, storm drainage, a roadway bridge over Lyle Creek, grading of three (3) industrial pad sites, stormwater detention and retention ponds, water and sewer extensions (including a crossing over Lyle Creek), and utility duct bank construction from an existing Duke Power sub-station. McGill Associates’ scope of services on this project also included application and coordination of permitting activities with all appropriate agencies.

These permits included authorizations to construct for water and sewer utilities, connection of the industrial drive to a NCDOT roadway, stream impact and environmental permitting, flood modeling and permitting (including CLOMR application and LOMR documentation), stormwater permitting, and erosion and sedimentation control permitting.

Coordination of planning and design activities for this project were critical considering the many disciplines of design related to the project, as well as coordination among all of the ownership partners. Given McGill Associates’ multi-discipline structure and capabilities along with its relationships to all of the ownership partners, the project has been a success.
